Crutches, The Real Pain of a Broken Leg

It's how I really feel about using crutches until my broken leg heals!
This is the third time I have broken my left leg! Yes, I know, how improbable is that right? Oh and did I mention, same place? Yep, that would be me. Course, I was nine and five years younger than I am now, so I was able to heal a little quicker. I had walking casts the first two times. After the cast is set, you can do pretty much what you want. The first time, I even did Country dancing with it on. Ok, I was really lots younger then! Second time, well, I went back to work right away, and I drove my car, and I even shot pool.
Whoever said the third time is the charm? This time, I really did a number on my leg. Course, it might be worse cause it’s already been broke twice, but seriously? Crutches? Never have I had to deal with crutches! First, I’m already in pain, on pain medication and my body is in shock. I’m shaky, sick to my stomach, and light headed. (No that’s not my normal state!) Using crutches is like learning to walk on a balance beam. You are not supposed to walk with two fake legs and a real one, it’s just not natural. You still have to balance, though right? So at some point, your leg has to lightly touch the ground to get your balance. Ouch! That hurts!
Second day, I’m still trying to figure out the balance and still on pain medication. Oh, did I mention our bedroom is upstairs? Hmmm. By the end of the second day, I thought I was doing pretty well. Off I went, clomping up the stairs. Got half way up and thought, whew, it’s still a long way to go! I did make it to the landing, with only three more steps to go I figure I have it made. Wrong! I fell up the three remaining steps and ended up crawling to the bathroom where I could grab on to something (the toilet) and pull myself up again. I cried myself to sleep that night!
Third day, still on crutches, still in pain, but still getting better at swinging the crutches. Oh, I forgot, you have to watch out for loose papers on the floor, and dog toys. Speaking of Big Hoss and Little Joe, they learned quickly to stay out of mama’s way!
Fourth day, I’m getting pretty good at balancing, and getting better going up and down the stairs. I also have sore muscles where I never knew I had muscles before. Arms hurt, underarms, hurt, upper chest is sore. Oh well, I know I just need to stay on my feet! I hope I can make it till I see the Doctor again on April 9th. He’ll decide then if I can put any weight on my left foot, or still have to walk in a cast and use those darn crutches!
