Just Another Tall Tale

I’m afraid the Goths ain’t going home peacefully.
There’s a brilliant solution going around Washington these days to put end to the invasion from the south. “If we can just force employers to stop hiring invaders, the jobs will dry up, and the invaders will go home.” Wow, sounds great! So we ignore the invaders and attack employers. We can clobber them with gigantic fines, embarrass them on TV and show the world its all their fault. The employers of course will have to raise prices to pay the fines. Then the government can give all the money they are collecting to their friends to run public service ads humiliating the invaders so they’ll go home. Something like they did with all of the money they collected from the cigarette companies on the behave of smokers. Yeah, that should fix it. With all of that humiliation and no jobs, the invaders and their families will start to starve and head for home. Most of them would find good paying jobs and live happy ever after. Of course, there are no jobs in the old country, but they can always turn to crime when they get back. In the old country though, criminals get put in jail. Worst yet, the jails there are not the resorts we have here. Actually, if you think about it, if crime is the only way, why go back. If you chose a life of crime here, it’s just a matter a night in jail, going to court, and you’re back on the streets. The Romans tried this, and the invaders did move on. But before they left, they took everything that was nailed down and left Rome a barren wasteland. That’s probably why they decided to leave, Rome was in poverty and ruin. After all, who would want to raise a family in a place like that. Sp in the end it worked. Now there is another way to stop employers from hiring invaders. You see employers won’t hire people who can’t show up for work. So if the invaders can’t cross the border, what’s the sense of hiring them. Now that’s a strange solution isn’t it. Then again, some of these invaders are decent honest hard working people just looking for a better life. The kind of people that made this country great. Say, what if we set up an embassy in that country. Then those hard working people could go there and ask if there was some legitimate way of entering our country to start a decent life? Here’s an even stranger idea. What if we elected people to our government who wouldn’t come up with wacko money making schemes to hide and avoid the unpleasant hard part of their job. You know, schemes like let’s give them apartments and pay the rent so we can keep track of the invaders, or how about drivers licenses, that should fix it. I’m sure we could find people who would actually do the hard work required to solve the problem while we still have a country. We could replace the schemers with people who would actually live up to their responsibilities to the nation and its citizens. Yeah, it use to be like that you know…. Opps there I go again, I must have forgotten to take my medication again.
