Ebooks, why switch?
9/11/2004 11:47:44 PM
By now most of you are familiar with ebooks as well as the old standard print books. But you may not be familiar with why an
author would go with an e-publisher, rather than a print. Let me tell you...And this is why you should check e-books out too!

Okay, first let me just say that I'm a category romance writer. I write short contemporary romances and children's books. I've been in the writing business for approximately 40 years.

As a writer it took me years to perfect my work. It took so much writing and re-writing till I was wondering if I would ever get a thing published.

The problem I later (much later) found out was that I didn't conform to "formula". I still don't. I don't intend to.
Aren't you just a little tired of all the books that have
a love scene every 45 pages, and the same old story re-written a million different ways?

Of course you are. You are now looking for something fresher, something a little different. It's like the erotica craze, and I could get into that one too, but that will be a later blog.

New York print publishers want the hero to be a certain type, he can't be too scarred, too bad, or too anything. He has to sweep the heroine off her feet in very few pages, get her to the bed and basically keep her there till she realizes she can't live without him.

You can get tired of pre-planned loved affairs as you can anything else.

I remember back int he eighties, the girls were whimps, the men were over-bearing, and the reader ate them up. But now the typical romance reader has grown up and they are ready for stories that burn into their brains and never let them forget. I'm talking about good old fashioned characterization, morales and real "romance". I'm talking about ordinary people that fall in love and they are so powerfully gut wrenching great that you won't put the book down, nor ever forget them.

Ebooks are changing the romance world and slowly, a reader at a time, we are giving the readers what they have been wanting for some time...originality, characterization, and real "romance".

Think about this, there have been millions of short lived, very popular TV shows in the past, but why did Gunsmoke have watchers for over twenty years? Why is the Twilight Zone
still popular. Why does Star Trek have Trekkie fans everywhere now? Because of good writing! Because there was something in that writing that stood out from others.

Oh sure, you'll watch Bay Watch, but is it the writing, or the bathing suit clad people in the show that carries you back every week?

No, if you really want good reads, reads that stick in your minds, and make you swoon and never let you forget that book, then discover the diversity, the strong story-telling qualities you will find in ebooks.

Ebooks are not perdictable. Like real life they take you on a journey, and there is no limits.

My friends, if you haven't tried an ebook, you are missing something. Writers today are innovative, and believers of the future.

Ebooks are going to be around as long as computers...after we run out of trees...so don't discard them, relish them. Read
an ebook today and see what all the fus is about. And you tell me....which is better.
