Faith In Nothing So To Speak 1/2/2007 4:54:42 AM Faith in Things does not last
Alas, the native faith of the frightened, credulous herd has far too often been exploited by holding out false hopes for utopias while giving the faithful nothing real except self-flattery, and, all too often, the excitement of mass murder, serial killing, and mayhem. Native faith is desire without end. Such is Life. But we are given the faculty of reason to accomplish our objectives in a cooperative manner according to the laws of love, and not at random in an insane, vicious and unwholesome manner. Faith may be our native cause for living, but reason should be our guide, just as reason gives us cause to believe: faith is the motive to believe, while belief is the gradual perfection of knowledge. Do not believe the dictionary: there is a big difference between faith and belief. Believing is living the reasonable law of love; believing is the perfecting of faith through the love of truth-seeking. Belief is always subject to further verification until knowledge becomes perfected as wisdom. Finally, as far as I am concerned, there is no truth or love in an object-god. I can understand why men fight over things, but fighting over object-gods is absurd, dishonest, and suicidal. Object-gods are symbols of bad faith. Do I have faith? Yes, I do. I have unswerving faith in Nothing, so to speak. No, I do not have faith in things. To have faith in things is self-contradictory. Again, I have unswerving faith in Nothing.
