Murder in our Town

We moved to the small town on the coast because it was a quiet sleepy town. The kind of small town where jokes are made that if you blink you missed it.
55 years ago there was a double murder. The little ghosties in white gowns came and blew up Harry and Harriet Moores house. The Moore's were human rights activists and in the 1950's, I guess that wasn't acceptable to those men who wear those funny hats that look like dunce caps ... only they cover their faces...
Anyway, my point is that on Easter Sunday there was a murder in our little coastal town. The last murder happened on Christmas---our little town must have a thing for stupid murders on Christian holidays.
Yup, Easter Sunday, after 55 years of having no murders in this town, someone or possibly plural someones decided they wanted to break the long "no murder in our town" streak.
A murder, yup, that's what I said. A murder in our little sleepy town. Someone claims it was over jewelry. I believe jewelry is or must be some type of code word among some crowds because there have been murders in Orlando over "jewelry" as well. Hmm, I wonder if they are hiding something in this jewelry?
If our family still lived in Orlando, it wouldn't have fazed me as much. Why? Well, although Orlando isn't exactly one of the worst high crime towns to live in, they still have crime and murders. It wouldn't have been such a shock. I wouldn't have been so appalled at the actions of these people killing each other over "jewelry"
Is that a good thing? That I am appalled and no longer numb at the crimes that are committed in some cities on a daily basis? Thank God, yes, I should be appalled.
I pray that it will be another 55+ years or more before something like this happens in our town again.
