Thoughts for today
7/25/2007 8:08:28 AM
If you have read my poems and even in my books you know I am completely infatuated with clouds. They are beautiful fluffy shapes of moisture on a sunny day and when the sun reflects off them or through them it creates the most wonderful sight.
I may be driving along and realize that I cannot help but watch the clouds moving overhead. Sometimes they seem to be traveling with me. Other times, they are moving across the sky and still other times they are coming toward me. Their shape is never absolute although if I watch I notice some that will temporarily take on the form of familiar items. Yesterday I saw one that looked like a rabbit but it soon scattered itself and was gone like a dream comes and goes.

The clouds are not the only beauty you can behold. The blue sky behind them looks like a wonderful blue ocean. I suppose that was what was meant when the Bible said, “and he separated the waters above the earth from the waters below.”

I can get lost in the beauty of a sunrise over the Atlantic and equally as infatuated with the sunset over the mountains to west of us. There is beauty everywhere if we only take time to see it.

In this world we live in today it is so easy to get caught up in the woes of the twenty-first century. We have wars and rumors of wars. We have people hating for the sake of hatred. There all kinds of atrocities to see and hear about when you turn on the daily news and this is compounded because unlike in our forefather’s day, news wasn’t instantaneous. That is why sometimes I simply turn off the TV and the radio. I purposely do not look for the news online and simply search for peace of mind.

It is one reason why I spend so much time writing. It is a wonderful way to vent my faith, my doubts, my insecurities as well as my faith. I like to stress my faith because unlike doubt and insecurities; faith builds something positive. It keeps me aware that there is good in our existence. The big secret is the ability to look for it and recognize it once we have seen it.

Our President keeps using fear as a tactic to make us want to keep sending our young men off to war in a land where they do not really appreciate and most of them do not want our help. If I let myself get caught up in this my very faith will soon be destroyed. So I vow to live my life and derive as much joy out of it as I can possibly absorb. The terrorists can kill the body but they cannot kill the soul. People are breaking into other peoples houses, robbing and raping women in communities where this sort of thing just did not happen.

If I dwell on all this I will surely go crazy or become as violent and cruel as the people who perpetrate these actions.
