Refection - we never knew if was difficult times.
Back in the Day
We had one house
Seven children and two adults occupied four bedrooms and two baths
We had it pretty good. Back in the day – would ya say?
Back in the Day
We had one TV 3 channels and news at six for the house to share
And there was never an argument
Or hell raised under Momma’s watch
But if things got loud – you could expect Daddys loving leather feather to smooth your thoughts for the next time around back in the day.
You see cause, back in the day; it wasn’t what the judge says
But Daddy’s way or the highway.
Back in the Day
We knew who the Santa was
Because there was no Claus to or who did what for whom
Back in the day
Daddy worked everyday, thru winter storms, and brutal summer days
And there wasn’t a cell phone to prone, or roam his where abouts. Home everyday there ain’t no dought
Back in the day we had one car
That fit all, and no one, was to fat to skinny or tall.
I was a lap baby and always sat next to the window
No AC you see, but for me.
Made it easy for me, when we stopped for ice cream, or penny candy
You see back in the day there was always plenty to eat
Cause you never waste a thing or got up from your seat. Till it was all gone?
Back in the day, I wore jack parcells or whatever we could afford
I really didn't care of what others thought.
Back in the day we had one washer, no dryer, one refrigerator, no freezer.
One tie, one suit, one pair of dress shoes, and we never beg borrow, or sang the blues.
Back in the day on Sunday you went to Sunday school. To learn about decency
A man named Jesus and God’s rules.
Back in the day is now for some of you, but God said I will never leave you
Nor forsake you as we stood together back in the day.
