There is a play from the 1940s, which was turned into quite a film with an all star cast of starlets from the time, called The Women. The main character holds to "her pride" to the point of divorcing her husband. By the end of the film she realizes that it can be awfully miserable to live life with "pride" for a partner. To the satisfaction of all the romantics, including myself, she divorces her pride and gets back together with her husband.

We've all heard the saying, "Pride cometh before the fall." The Ego is often the enemy. Ego causes chaos, hinders progress, takes away from team, is selfish and concerned with only what it needs to feel better about itself. No matter what the cost.

It's one thing to feel proud. That's part of one's self-esteeem; however, to be proud to the point of irrationality is quite another thing.

Humility is under-rated. Confidence is not pride. One can be confident and humble. They are not opposites. The are keys to being successful, especially in a relationship.

To learn that thinking of the whole and working for the beneficial shared goal with confidence, not to gain recognition but because that is your productive role in life, what you owe in exchange for your existence, is essential to having a peaceful, enjoyable and prosperous life that you can share, appreciate and love.

So I pray for humility and confidence, pray to be a servant leader, so that I will serve for the better of the whole, not in service to my ego.
