The True Meaning of Love
6/28/2008 6:46:45 PM
When you love someone, you're there for them, whether that suites your needs or not. Real love isn't about what you get; it's about what you give. Especially at moments when giving matters the most, when you actually put yourself aside for the betterment of the other. I'm not talking about being a martyr or "sacrifice." I am talking about genuine giving of yourself because at that moment in time, the best gift you can give is honest love and support without expectation. Unconditional loving. Unconditional giving. That's what I mean by whether it suites you or not. If you can give of yourself and walk away without resentment or in a huff because you didn't get yours, because at the time you truly gave the other person what they needed without thought as to what you will get out of the situation, then you have learned to love. And nothing, no one, can tear that apart. It's not what you get. It's not what you give. It's in the spirit with which you do it. Not for any gain. Just because it was the right thing to do for that person. It was the loving thing to do. And done in joy, in the spirit of love, there is satisfaction in knowing that you have done that. Expect nothing more. Not even a thank you. Just do what's right out of love for love's sake. May you all be blessed by the true meaning of love.
