To escape or simply to relate?

Listening to songs on the radio, watching movies and reading books...Why do we gravitate to these forms of entertainment? Why do we have specific genre interests and favorites?
Is it so we can relate our experiences to someone elses, or could it be that we are trying to escape our own?
Music, Movies, Plays, Books....all have one thing in common: Each has a writer!
Writers are a talented group of creative individuals who can express and share in a way most of the world can not communicate. Writers bring about many forms of emotions, challenge the imagination and some even play tricks with your mind.
Here is my question to you:
Is your desired form of entertainment to escape, or simply to relate?
