Where has the American morals and family values gone?
Day 5
This blog is late. I did not feel like sharing anything with the faceless and voiceless crowd until now. I was watching 20/20 and they did a story on a new book by the aide to Senator Edwards. This makes me so angry because the author of this book is going to make millions because he is telling about how he helped this senator keep his mistress and baby a secret. Edwards stood before the American people and preached about American morals and family values. This man has the audacity to preach to all of us about values with his wife by his side and his mistress in the audience.
I know there are hard working people out there because my family is one of them. I think that the number is getting smaller because our children see that it is better to cheat, lie, and forget about the hard work. This news show also did a piece on teenage girls that are being intimidated into having sex with the managers. When one girl blew the whistle on Starbucks they retaliated by bring her sexual activity to the forefront and making her look like a slut. They also attacked her parents by saying they had not raised their daughter with the right morals. Giant Starbucks goes after and rapes this young girl and her family and people still buy their coffee. I will never buy Starbucks coffee again.
The American public has changed from cheering for the underdog to cheering for the Giant. When did our world change? I think I have been living in a bubble because my family does the right thing.
I have wasted the last five years of my life trying to sell my books, Turkey Shoot and Bloody Angle. I say wasted because I am this small nothing trying to take on the big bookstores and the American public. My family has handed out flyers about my book. I have set up book signings and tried to have local newspapers print my press releases. I am not print worthy. Even my hometown newspaper turned me down and said when I was a name then maybe they would print something about me. If I did something outrageous, illegal, or did something against American family morals and values the newspapers would be happy to put my face on the front page.
Now this aide to Senator Edwards writes a book telling how he helped in the cover-up of this affair and love child he will make millions. New York Times bestseller list is going to welcome that book. This aide helped the senator fool all of us and we are going to make him a millionaire. Well I will not be buying that book. I am so tired of bad behavior getting all the money.
The man that fooled Oprah with his book of lies. I can understand why he did the book. The only way to get the goddess of television to notice him was to lie about the horrible life and how he turned it all around. The only way to get a big publishing contract is to have people talking about you. It does not matter if it is good or bad just that they are talking.
No one cares how hard you work, or that you are faithful to your God and family because that does not sell. Never give a sucker and even break, grab what you want, and always be first to beat down the weak. Sounds like my victim in Turkey Shoot. I thought I was writing a work of fiction but watching the news it is the new way of life.
Now Edwards is going to apologize to the American public. He will get an insignificant punishment, but in the end, his wife will forgive, and he will run for office where the public will forgive him. His aide will make millions of bucks because he helped put one over on the American public.
When did we give up on helping the little guy? I know that I am not the only little guy our here. We let the rich Giants and politician preach to us about values and being held accountable for our actions. The rich Giants and politicians are not held accountable to anyone. We have let them do this to us. The public runs to buy books from the big publishing houses. They have millions to spend on publicity and we eat it up. It does not matter that there are other authors out there that their work is much better. They do not have a huge Giant telling the people that their work is great.
I am stepping down from my soap box for the night. I have the right to preach because this is my space and my time. If no one wants to read it that is fine with me. I am tired of being the little guy that is not recognized. I know what I do is great. I have a wonderful family that supports what I do. The people that read this blog are faceless and voiceless so what does it matter. If you want to make a difference then be brave enough to make a statement.
