Stuck about the present? Write about the past! 2/8/2010 12:24:02 PM If you don't know a whole lot about what kids and teens today are like, try setting your story in the past. It could be your own past, or even that of your parents. You'd know or be able to ask what kids thought about and how they behaved at the time. Of course, it helps if there is another reason for setting your story in the past. If you want to weave the issue of civil rights into your story, for example, then setting your story in the 60s would make a lot of sense, since so many of the struggles and legislation for civil rights occurred back then.
Even if you lived through the time you choose to write about, you may still need to do some research, but it could be a great era about which you could write.
