Is Bizarro a Movement or a Fad? 7/12/2009 3:39:19 AM check out bizarrocentral.com and see for yourself. I don't think Bizarro can honestly be considered a movement until it reaches the second and third generation of writers and readers. Until then it is a really cool fad. But so was skateboarding, motocross and cinema. A movement needs more than 5 publishing houses and ten years on the job. I can see it getting there, however, and the stories are, by far, the most interesting I have seen in many a day. Bizarro has such unlimited potential to mushroom. As Troy stated: "It's such a free genre, yet with also very precise definitions." I think that is a powerful point. Any genre that claims such diverse tomes as "Murderland" and "Shatnerquake" as their own has nowhere to go but UP. That being said, how do we grow this thing right now? In what ways can we let the sadly shrinking reading public know they have Bizarro as an option? It is almost as if literature is saving its best for last. I just keep thinking of this Danny Devito movie where he explains to a throng of people who are fixing to lose their jobs, that it was to be expected. That the BEST buggy whip ever made was the LAST buggy whip ever made. We do not want to be Jazz. You know, spending 12 years busting your chops to be brilliant in front of 5 drunks in some bar. Within my expanded circle of artists, I am the only way they have even heard of Bizarro. But my teens love it (nod to Gina and Carlton). That's a start. Hook 'em while they are young. That's most likely our target audience if Bizarro is to have a second and third generation and become the steamroller is could be. How do we do it? Anyone?
So says the guy who read his very first Bizarro book less than a year ago (Piecemeal June...yer the tits, Jordan!) so what the f*** do I know?
