What on Earth Did We Do Last November? 6/13/2009 9:57:00 AM Mr. Obama's First Six Months Given the current state of affairs over here and back in the US, I could have “blogged” every day, but I was hoping to keep my comments, if any, focused on writing. I have not done much writing lately, however, as we are in transition right now (we may be returning to the US later this year) and I have been quite busy at work. BUT . . . I can’t resist it any longer, so here goes:
Even though I was a supporter of John McCain (albeit not all that enthusiastically), I was willing to give Mr. Obama a chance. He did, after all, inherit two difficult wars, a major economic crisis, immigration problems, etc. Now, after about 6 months of his stewardship, my worst fears have come to fruition. This man is a disaster. Barack Obama may be the worst president in American history. The only good things he’s done happened when he had to backtrack on some things he promised to do. We are not “creeping” toward socialism (as Barry Goldwater once put it), we are galloping toward it. This guy has all but nationalized the banks and the auto industry, and he’s trying to do the same to the health care industry. I live in the UK where we have socialized medicine and, believe me, it does not work.
He has weakened our nation with his weak foreign policy and is trying to turn the War on Terror into a law-enforcement issue (witness his recent order to read Miranda rights to terror suspect caught overseas. Think about that.) His rationale? Everything George Bush did in the last eight years was bad so we must now do the opposite. The fact that the Bush administration’s policy of bringing the war to the terrorists and keeping it off our shores worked quite well seems to be lost on this guy.
The Democratic Party is doggedly undermining the capitalist system and subverting the very principles this country was founded on. The United States was founded on the principles of limited government, states rights, strong national defense, the right to defend one self, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of association, and a market economy (i.e., free commerce). We are also a nation resting on a foundation of Judeo-Christian principles and morals. I submit to you all of these things are under attack in the name of “fairness,” “sharing the wealth,” “gay rights,” “climate change,” “open borders,” and all the rest of the “secular progressive” agenda. Our Founding Fathers must be spinning in their graves.
The Europeans, tired of interference from the European Union “big brother” approach, the high taxes, out of control spending, and uncontrolled immigration which threatens to overwhelm the various European cultures and traditions, have turned rightward in the latest elections. Hopefully, they are beginning to see the light.
What about us? As far as I’m concerned, 2010 and 2012 cannot come soon enough.
