life as the grandmother to a 5 year old
My grandson is going to a new school tomorrow. He is in K5. he has been in school since he was 2 but previously it was a tiny private school near our house. The new school has over 750 students and all the things that make school great: chorus, band, soccer, computer lab and recess. His parents went to orientation while I stayed with him. When his parents got back and started talking about the dos and don'ts I nearly choked with laughter.
the list of don't included:
the banning of silly bands
no cell phones (remember this is elementary school through grade 5)
no dating. Yes, I said "no dating". The principal began her statement by saying "I don't know what happened but last year right after Christmas the 5th graders decided cooties weren't all that bad." Apparently there was PDA in the hallways.Isn't that a little too early?
The school impressed my son a lot. My grandson's vote is still out but I expect a positive reaction. He loves science and can explain how a planet is formed and
about how the planets rotate and their place with the sun, moon and earth. We went to the planetarium last Friday and he was mezmerized.
He also loves fish. We go to the aquarium at least 3 times a month. His favorite are two little puffer fish and a clown fish who seem to recognize him and swim up to meet him when he appears at the side of the tank. He has decided that I need a fish (I don't) and is determined to get me one. Translated that means it will be his and he is using me for an excuse.
My summers are always busy because we try to cram in so much fun. Everyweek there is the free movie at the cinema. Then there is the aquarium,planetarium,feeding the seagulls, going to the beach, the water park, the water slide, feeding the turtles, fishing; how do we fit it all in?
