Bully or Sociopath? 5/12/2012 7:15:37 AM Mitt Romney's denial of any recollection of
bullying a classmate may be symptomatic of a worse
affliction.
It has recently come to light that presidential candidate Mitt Romney, along with several fellow high school students, assaulted a classmate, pinning him to the ground and cutting his hair.
Romney says he was guilty of immature high jinks in high school but has no recollection of the incident. Apparently the boy had dyed his hair blond and was kind of quiet. I don’t know about you, but if I’d done something like that I’d remember it, unless I was a sociopath that is. Several of Romney’s peers do remember it and are still disturbed by what they did. They remember the fear in the boy’s eyes. Romney was never charged; the boy he assaulted got kicked out of school for smoking. What’s wrong with this picture? Romney says that if he did this, it wasn’t about gay bashing. So then, what was it? Was it because the boy was different? In our society if you’re fifty years old without ever being married people assume you must be gay. Goth students go through the same thing Romney’s victim did. Because they wear eyeliner and paint their fingernails black, they must be gay. But if you talk to a Goth student they will tell you it’s a protest about the Barbie and Ken doll society and the brand name obsession many American teenagers have. I think Romney and his crew did think the boy was gay which is actually worse than gay bashing because they didn’t know that for sure. The boy’s family objects to the way their brother and son was portrayed. I don’t know if that’s just conservative spin or what, but they seem to have missed the point. You just don’t do that to a fellow human being, especially if you represent family values and you consider yourself religious. This isn’t the first time right wing conservatives have done this kind of thing. A Tea Party member sent representative Betty McCollum a used condom. Recently a jealous neo-Nazi tied to Tea Party politics murdered a sixteen month old toddler in Arizona. The nation saw several Tea Party members spit on several black congressmen during the health care debate. Of course conservative spin denied it.
As an adult Romney chose a profession that can be compared to bullying. He was corporate raider who swooped down on an ailing company, laid people off, joined it with several other failing companies and sold it for 250 million dollars, with no concern for the people without jobs. Fifty years ago that sort of business activity was frowned upon; today downsizing is normal business activity.
So then, Romney is either a liar, a sociopath or just a plain old bully. You can’t say he was only a teenager and should be forgiven. His whole campaign seems to be a repeat of what he’d done. He destroyed Rick Santorum and the other candidates for the nomination primarily through the use of negative ads. He doesn’t seem to have a recollection of being a moderate conservative governor of Massachusetts when he passed Health Care legislation similar to The Affordable Health Care act he says he now opposes. There’s still a degree of homophobia as well. When Obama came out in favor of homosexual marriage, Romney accused him of trying to divide the country. Conservatives of his ilk have been trying to divide the country since Ronald Reagan hosted Jerry Falwell once a week. Coincidentally Mitt Romney is speaking at Liberty College, home of the Flat Earth Society, this weekend (May 12th).
