Self-Diagnosing, Mental Health Awareness, Depression 5/20/2012 4:06:33 AM Intern's syndrome: a tendency to diagnose one's self while studying any particular disorder Life can present a whole bucket full of challenges for all of us, stemming from childhood to adulthood. It's quite natural at times when we have difficulty facing situations we question our own-selves. What's wrong with me, etc., etc., etc.
Unfortunately, Television (dating back to the 1940's forward) has portrayed such shows as Father Knows Best, Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, Leave it to Beaver, My three son's etc. as what America viewed as the "normal" family home. Sadly, this only portrayed the minority of actual family life. And of course hard times for all families stem back to the beginning of time before television.
My prose when discussing mental illnesses are to create awareness only. They fall short of sufficiently covering the entire disorder. Also one must take into consideration we all have our own personality. Not any one person can be treated or counseled in like manner. This would never work for treatment to be successful.
MDD (Major Depressive Disorder) affects 14 million adults today. It's more than a collection of symptoms its a serious medical condition that can feel overwhelming and interfere with your ability to function. However, with any condition you MUST be diagnosed by a medical professional.
Back to facing life.
It is quite common there will be periods in our life where we feel blue. Sometimes situations we have no control over leaves us feeling helpless. We need to understand we are not superhuman and can't always solve everything. We need to understand how to work with it, around it, or just say - enough and let it go.
However, if you have faced periods of feeling depressed two or more weeks please seek medical advice.
In the interim, please enjoy my prose and have awareness for those who need help and offer your hand if you are able.
Love and Light
