There are those who keep their religious beliefs to themselves; close to the heart, never sharing what they feel or think, and then there are those that proclaim their walk with the Lord proudly, reveling in all that He has done in their life, and how great the relationship is the two of them share. When the latter is also gifted with the ability to place their feelings on paper, then you end up with a wonderful book such as this one-A Child of the King, by author Joanne Blundell Marsh.
In her book, Ms. Marsh shares her joy with knowing Jesus on a personal level, and of the many things he has done for her by using sound scriptural doctrine with passages from The New International Version of The Bible. Purists might prefer the King James, but NIV is much easier to read, written as it is in modern style English with no 'thee's' and 'thou's' in the bunch. On a personal note, I have always believed the Word of God should always be in the most acceptable form to the most readers-otherwise it never reaches the full potential available, instead staying locked away in a confusing tome of archaic style no one speaks anymore. It may be beautiful to read, but like Shakespeare to many people, if there is a problem in the understanding, then what's the point, and it goes back on the shelf; and that is sad.
In A Child of the King, the writing is clear, concise, and above all else, entertaining. She has taken what could be a dull preachy message, and transformed it into a joyous passage that lets you know not only what He has done in her life, but also what He can do in yours if you let Him. Interspersed within her book are lyrics to several hymns as well, showing the beautiful flowing passages as the poetry they are, something I think missing when they are sung.
However, I have saved the most remarkable part of the reading experience I had with this book for last. Ms. Marsh is afflicted with MS-Multiple Sclerosis. You would think, given the circumstances that life has given her, it would be easy to just give up, abandon her beliefs and curse the fates for her disease. Yet, she manages to still see the beauty of life, her exuberance leaping off the page in a captivating grasp of such a positive mindset that you don't feel bad or sorry for her, but instead amazed in what she has accomplished.
Your fortitude and perseverance Ms. Marsh, is commendable, your writing wonderfully exuberant, and captivating, and the love you share with your Savior contagious. Allow me to say Bravo on an excellent piece of work on which you should be very proud. I thank you for allowing me to share in this glimpse into your world, and hope I, along with many others, will be honored with more to come. You have a very special gift, make the most of it-please.
