IMPRESSIVE GATHERING AT SUR CLUB
FOR EID AND ONAM CELEBRATION

Eid Holidays of Oman gave non-resident Keralites twin joy. To celebrate Eid Al Fitr, came after a month-long fasting in the Holy month of Ramadan, and Onam, the traditional Kerala harvest festival.
Indian Social Club Kerala Wing celebrated Eid and Onam with a variety of cultural programme on Friday the 3rd October 2008 at Sur Club.
Indian Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, H.E. Anil Wadhwa, was the chief guest. He inaugurated the function, by lighting traditional lamp.
Guests of Honour on the occasion was: Oman’s Ministry of Sports Affairs’ Deputy Director Nasser Bin Said Bin Salam Al Sanani; Sur Club President Khalid Bin Salam Al Mudhelvi; Indian Social Club Chairman, Dr. Satish Nambiar; Oman India Fertiliser Company Chief Executive Officer C.V. Venugopal; Indian Social Club Community Welfare Secretary P.M. Jabir; Indian Social Club Cultural Secretary Babu Rajendran and Indian Social Club Kerala Wing Convener Ratheesh K.
The function was presided over by Ratheesh. Eid-Onam Celebration Committee General Convener V.P. Ramachandran delivered welcome speech and Finance Committee Convener C. Mohandas gave vote of thanks.
Oman India Fertiliser Company was the mega sponsor, and Oman UAE Exchange and Jet Airways and others were the co-sponsors of the event.
In his inaugural speech, the Indian Ambassador said that he was pleased to see the impressive gathering at Sur Club to watch the programme, as part of Eid and Onam celebration. Earlier, on his arrival at Sur Club, the Ambassador was given traditional welcome.
In his speech, Dr. Satish Nambiar asked the audience to donate their one-day salary for the rehabilitation of flood victims in Bihar and elsewhere in India.
Mr. P.M. Jabir said that in sending humanitarian assistances to crises-hit Indians, whether it was Gujrat earth-quake victims or Tsunami victims or Kargil victims, Indian Social Club Kerala Wing was always in the front line. He said efforts were begun for collecting funds for flood victims. Mr. V.P. Ramachandran and Mr. C. Mohandas explained the efforts taken by ISC Kerala Wing members in Sur in sending humanitarian aid to people affected by natural calamities in different parts of India.
After the inaugural function, a variety of cultural programmes including Mohiniyattam, Bharathanattyam, Thiruvathirakkali, Folk Dance, Cinematic Dance, Nadanpattu, Oppana, Mappilappattu, Poorakkali, Thottampattu and Mimicry, participated by children, housewives and local Malayali artists were performed in front of packed audience for over four hours.
