New York City, my kind of town

A year or so ago I was asked, indeed honored to have joined a “professional” writers group. Since then the wealth of information and inspiration has been overwhelming.

For a writer, artist, or performer, there’s no grater stage then this fabulous city. Yes, we’re gritty, worn around edges, perhaps even a bit tarnished, and there are certainly more pristine, modern and perhaps even more attractive cities to live in.

However when it comes to creativity and energy there’s no city on planet earth the can compare with this painted lady.

What other city can boast that the majority of its population are “transplanted New Yorkers” coming from other parts of the country, indeed other parts of the world, for the privilege of being called “New Yorker’s”.

There are over 170 new live productions in theater a week, both off and on Broadway. Hundreds of creative workshops, and where else can you wake up in the wee hours of the morning, walk a few blocks and have an incredible meal, believe me this city is not for everyone, however I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else on earth…I’m in love with this old lady.

Above is a photo of a young and beautiful Marilyn Monroe (taken around 1959) at Grand Central Station, in the heart of New York City riding the subway, with little if any fanfare. It was later reported that she ”loved New York City”, because she could travel around the city, seemingly unnoticed…New Yorkers are a rare breed indeed.
