Gary R. Varner, author of Essays in Contemporary Paganism, Sacred Wells, Water of Life--Water of Death, and Menhirs, Dolmen and Circles of Stone, has recently signed a new contract with New York academic publisher, Algora Publishing for his new book, The Mythic Forest, The Greenman & The Spirit of Nature.
This book is an exploration of the Green Man myth from the worship of ancient vegetation gods to the folklore of the trees and forests to the inclusion of the Green Man motif into church and secular architecture.
The book takes a look at the Green Man foliate mask carvings found in American architecture and compares these carvings with similar works of art in Britain and around the world. The book will be illustrated with many photographs never before published.
Algora Publishing expects to release the book as part of its Spring 2006 catalogue.
