Gary R. Varner, author of the “Mythic Forest, the Green Man and the Spirit of Nature”; “Menhirs, Dolmen and Circle of Stone”; “Sacred Wells” and “Water of Life Water of Death: The Folklore and Mythology of Sacred Waters”, recently signed a contract for his sixth book on mythology and folklore with academic publisher Algora Publishing. Algora is also the publisher of "The Mythic Forest..." and "Menhirs, Dolmen and Circles of Stone."
“Creatures in the Mist: Little People, Wild Men and Spirit Beings Around the World” is a fascinating study in comparative mythology that examines folklore and legends concerning fairies, giants, vampires, Wild Men, were-wolves, snake-men, mermaids and other strange creatures. The author, a member of the American Folklore Society, believes that many of these tales are based on factual encounters with beings and creatures that may still exist in the little populated areas of the world. Ethnographic and archaeological evidence for their existence is discussed in the book. Tales containing almost identical descriptions of these beings have been culled from such diverse cultures and areas around the world as North and South American, Africa, Asia and Polynesia and Europe.
“Creatures in the Mist” will be featured as part of Algora’s Fall 2006 catalogue. The book contains an index, bibliography, tables and many illustrations.
