Mr. Varner has done an excellent job of blending history, philosophy, mythology, and traditional beliefs into not only an interesting book but food for thought. I don't see this as a book on Paganism. Each essay brings the God and Goddesses to life and gives the reader a chance to know and understand them whether they be real or myths and see how they have played an important role in religion as we know the various ones today.
Christians, Jews and Moslems all have taken bits and pieces from these legends or fables and have embedded them into religion as we know it today. It shows that Paganism is not a religion with no beliefs but one that has a different way of seeing this world and I find that the book has many answers to those seeking the paths to bring a sense of balance to this world. We all must understand mankind, and must seek the paths in this world in their own way .
I totally enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
