Somehow I’d got caught up and it was as simple as a primo. I hated Sheila for introducing me to the drug and blamed her for my fall. Sheila lied to me to satisfy her own needs for the drug. I was only twenty years old and couldn’t begin to know the things that would be done and brought about using the substance. But, I felt safe with Willie. It seemed like he had a handle on it and got plenty. I needed to stay close to him so that he could protect me and give me what I wanted in the drug. He was then my friend and he understood what I was feeling. He liked me and wanted to marry me. The fantasy was all too real, because Willie wasn’t the type I would look at, twice, but he gave me a feeling of security and that was what I wanted to have. I was hooked and I needed a friend that understood what it meant to be hooked and do what it took to get the drug.
Willie’s last words that night, were, “I wish you didn’t have to go through this. This is a hard way to live and a hard habit to break."
