This week a classic new vs. old video showdown; on one side we have Aerosmith, the other side, The Last Vegas. Aerosmith is famous for a career that spans four decades and now Steven Tyler’s (yawn) work on American Idol as a judge. The Last Vegas are a new sleaze rock band that put a unique spin on their videos (and songs) by incorporating horror and humor when possible. SPOILER ALERT: No losers here today!
For Aerosmith fans, the wait is over. Aerosmith has officially released “Legendary Child”, the first music video (and single) from their upcoming album titled ‘Music From Another Dimension.’
The video wants to be a movie and the beginning plays like a movie trailer. Then we cut to a girl in roller skates (Is she the legendary child? Is she a new roller girl?). The girl has a box and is on the run. Cut to the band, the song has a “Walk This Way” feel mixed with the typical Aerosmith ballad chorus they have mastered the past twenty years. Steven Tyler is wearing goggles pushed up onto the top of his head. Because of the goggles he looks a little bit like the guy Mystery from VH1’s “The Pickup Artist” reality show. Anyone else embarrassed to remember that show? Me neither. Tyler is sticking with what he knows: scarves on microphone, loose clothing that moves as he shakes, and cheesy lyrics. Getting back to the girl…still on the run, at 3:55 there is a major takedown of a girl. I have watched this takedown three times and am still not sure if the “clothes line” move or the rainbow bottoms worn by the girl getting leveled is more awesome. Let’s just call this one a tie.
