The Editor Speaks
by Wendi L. Cali
Last October, an idea began formulating. The idea was to build a web community as part of a testing ground for a new software program. Through that idea, I set my sights on a dream, a goal, of making that idea a reality, hence the creation of RITRO.com. When first starting, I called on my friends and acquaintances from online sources. Several replied with interest, enthusiastically joining the volunteer group effort. Intentions from the beginning were to create a strong presence with a loud voice through daily content on the Internet. We all knew we'd face obstacles. We all knew challenges would come our way. We all know we'd struggle, but that to survive and succeed, we'd have to roll up our sleeves and get a bit dirty.
RITRO.com is now nearly eight months old, and is a thriving community. By the means of a dedicated and incredibly hard working group of volunteers, we were able to convert one small idea into an entire community of ideas shared in the form of Real Insight Through Raw Opinion. The journey has not always been easy. At times, the excitement of it all made it seem fun and effortless; but as we grew, demands became greater on the staff. Some faltered, some steadied. Some stepped down while others stepped up. As we grow, it becomes increasingly necessary for the staff of RITRO.com to give more, work harder, stretch themselves, and expand in order to meet the needs of such a diverse community. Therefore, I'd like to take this moment to thank each and every single hard working volunteer who contributes to RITRO.com. Without them, there would be no RITRO.com. These volunteers do what they do out of love for written word, out of desire to make a change, out of need to be heard, and willingness to listen. These volunteers have deadlines, and stay up late to make them. These volunteers have opinions, and they walk a thin line to present them for public comment. They work their asses off, and I'm grateful -- so thank you Chad, Donna, Krista, Rhiannon, Kris, Wendy, Rhonda, Peng, Mechele, Tia, Margaret, and Catherine, for an outstanding job well done. Writing for money is one thing, but writing for love is another. Thank you for sharing your Real Insight Through Raw Opinion with us.
Due to the incredible efforts of our hard working volunteer staff, our community has grown, making it necessary to incorporate a Managing Editor position to assist the Editor in Chief - me. Making the decision of who would step into that position was not difficult. Through our creation and growth, one woman has remained consistently dedicated, not only to her own written work, but to the well being of the RITRO.com community. From day one, she has contributed not only content, but editorial services, creative concepts, and group support. Catherine Harris has been serving RITRO.com as the editor for the Writing tips/advice department, and will continue to do so. However, she will also now serve as the Managing Editor of the RITRO.com community, assisting in the maintenance, management, and expansion of Real Insight Through Raw Opinion.
Please take a few moments of your time to read through our staff list and get to know the beautiful people who are rolling up their sleeves and busting a sweat to bring Real Insight Through Raw Opinion to us daily. Again, without their efforts, this community would not exist. Each member on staff is a unique energy with diverse traits, talents, and abilities. I encourage you to get to know the staff, chat with them on our message boards, and share some of your own Real Insight Through Raw Opinion with us.
Catherine, thank you for your continued support and dedication to this project. Congratulations on the promotion. I look forward to the already-in-progress expansion of this wonderful community under your guidance.
