There is nothing like the power of the Arts.
It is because of the Arts' influence that C. A. Webb, Inc. was initially founded, giving
C. A. Webb an avenue to showcase his own talent and bring attention to other artists as well. As his organization has grown and diversified, so has the finances made available to give back to other art-related organizations and projects. (Organizations such as the Lyric Lounge founded by Motown Brown and hosted by satirist Ken Stiggers, VSA Arts of MS, Dept. of Human and Cultural Services, The Friendship Connection, Southern AIDS Commission, Building Bridges Inc. and the Rankin County Arts Alliance are among the groups Webb has supported monetarily.)
Now, C. A. Webb, Inc. is pleased to announce that it is possible for it to directly reward young people who are interested in showcasing their work.
On Saturday, July 17, 2004, C. A. Webb announced that his organization had started the Margaret Webb Sims Creative Arts Foundation. (The foundation is named for Webb's aunt, Margaret Webb Sims, who passed in February 2002. She was his biggest cheerleader at the time, and her support prompted Webb to rally other young people to pursue the Arts.)
The foundation's purpose is to reward young people in Hinds and Rankin County between grades 5-9 who have a desire to pursue their writing or visual arts skills.
In order to reward those junior high and high school students that are interested in the Arts, C. A. Webb and the Margaret Webb Sims Creative Arts Foundation will sponsor an annual essay contest called “What living the lifestyle of the Arts means to me.” The essay can be up to 500 words and should talk about the student’s particular interest in the arts and why they feel as though they can make a contribution to their community and the world through their gift.
(See attached form for more information. Copies can be made as needed.)
There will be two winners chosen in Hinds County as well as two in Rankin County. The first place winner in each county will receive $250.00 cash, a certificate from the Margaret Webb Sims Creative Arts Foundation, an exclusive 30-minute interview on the radio show “Conversations with C. A. Webb” on WMPR 90.1 FM.
The second place winner in each county will receive $100.00 cash, a certificate from the Margaret Webb Sims Creative Arts Foundation and a 15-minute interview on the radio show “Conversations with C. A. Webb” on WMPR 90.1 FM. All that are not chosen will receive certificates of appreciation from C. A. Webb and the Margaret Webb Sims Creative Arts Foundation.
