In June 2007, The New York Book Festival named the winners for its 2007 competition in 15 categories. A panel of book industry experts judged published, self-published and independent publisher non-fiction, fiction, children's books, teenage, poetry, how-to, audio/spoken word, comics, e-books, wild card, science fiction, romance and biography/autobiography works. Named the best book in the wild card category, The Street Life Series: Is It Suicide or Murder? by Kevin M. Weeks was highlighted for Mr. Weeks' story-telling ability and the potential of his work to win wider recognition in the publishing industry. With well over 400,000 books being released each year in the United States and United Kingdom markets, many worthy titles are overlooked. The New York Book Festival seeks to bring greater attention to worthy works of literature and grow their cultural impact beyond the grassroots.
