Knights of the First Order
Kathy Allison, Professor and head of the Department of Archaeology, at the University of Seattle, is out for a retreat to a mountain cabin to meet David Earl, a former alumni, who has donated a good deal of funds and artifacts to the university. She and teenage daughter, Sharon, had planned a simple outing to see David and learn something about the relic that was placed in her hands. As head of the department, she feels an obligation to learn more about the item. She was certain it would be an enjoyable time for her and Sharon to have that mother-teenager bonding, until two of Sharon’s friends, from the football team, decided to tag along. Now nothing is going as scheduled. She never expected to be followed, then after meeting David, to have guns pointed in their direction. Now they all must think fast, if they wish to escape, or end up crumpled on the ground like David. James Ellis, a widower, was a sniper in the military and happens to be staying at a cabin not far from David’s. The director of international contacts, who works with DEVCON, an organization that engages in archaeological work all over the world, witnesses the attack, and comes to Kathy’s rescue. James notices the familiar tattoo on the assailant, and, with some further investigation, discovers it is from the Knights of the First Order; a group he thought had long died. With the artifact in Kathy’s possession, they must decipher the meaning of the concealed map inside that could change much for human mankind. James and Kathy search frantically for answers as danger lurks at every corner.
Knights of the First Order is a most absorbing read, spinning with so much history from the past to the present. James is a fantastic character that speaks honesty from the first time he sets his sights on Kathy. They have a silent chemistry that easily can be read just by simple eye contact. Kathy feels like her life is dull until she is linked with a hot artifact and an even more dedicated man that wishes to offer help and find answers. Arthur Jackson weaves a motivating, non-stop action read, loaded in mystery, suspense, intrigue and exciting activity, totally entertaining to this reader. He certainly did some impressive research on this remarkable story that is a journey in itself, with a cast of secondary characters that really make the story come to life and anticipating more in this recommended read.
