A visit to the historic town of Lincoln, New Mexico, is anything but ordinary for Luke and his sister, Jenny. When a thunderstorm begins to brew the two youngsters start to realize things aren’t what they seem. Suddenly they are mysteriously swept back in time and find themselves face-to-face with the legendary Billy the Kid.
All of this takes place in "Billy the Kid and the Lincoln County War – A Luke and Jenny Adventure," the second installment of the Luke and Jenny series of historical novels by Arizona author and storyteller Gayle Martin.
In Martin’s book an ordinary morning of sightseeing begins to change as storm clouds begin to build. Luke and Jenny soon meet the ghost of Paul, a young Buffalo Soldier stationed at nearby Fort Stanton more than a century before. Paul guides Luke and Jenny through the events of Lincoln County War as well as the capture and final daring escape of the legendary Kid. Along the way he explains to them what is happening and why. Young readers are right there with Luke and Jenny as they learn firsthand the real story of Billy Bonney and the battle for control of Lincoln County. Adults too can learn facts about this famous and mysterious outlaw.
“Because history is too often taught as simply names and dates,” says Martin, “youngsters find the information boring and difficult to absorb.” But history doesn’t have to be that way, she says. “History is really the story of people and what they’ve done. Through Luke and Jenny, young readers will get to know the people of the past and what they did.”
"Billy the Kid and the Lincoln County War" is the sequel to the critically acclaimed "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral - Luke and Jenny Visit Tombstone." "Billy the Kid and the Lincoln County War" was also recently named as a finalist in the Indie Excellence 2007 Book Awards.
Scheduled for release in October, 2007, "Billy the Kid and the Lincoln County War – A Luke and Jenny Adventure," ISBN 978-1-58736-873-8/ historical fiction, will be available through Ingram and Bertram Books, U.K. For more information and/or to schedule an interview with the author, please contact Gayle Martin.
