“Common Sense – Revisited in the New Millennium”
by Stephen R Cafaro
The time is right for a second American Revolution. This rebellion is different from the original in that the oppressor is not a distant mother county but, rather, the very government that the people elected to represent their interests. After comparing the economic, social and political conditions of 1776 to the present circumstance of modern day America, it appears there are no solutions short of open revolt!
Cafaro is a devout student of economics and politics who has written "Common Sense – Revisited in the New Millennium” in an attempt to alert Americans to the self serving forces that inadvertently seek to destroy her. He has previously written ‘The Road to the Third World”’ a novel concerned with the social, economic and political consequences of the excesses of capitalism.
The American economy is on the verge of collapse! Millions of Americans are losing their homes, investments, savings, jobs and hope for the future. The American Dream has turned into a nightmare! As this is occurring, financial firms and banks deemed “too big to fail” are rewarded with trillions of dollars of government aid for their malfeasance. These inequities, when added to the decades of failed trade policies, have created an untenable situation for America’s struggling workers.
This essay is relevant to every American. The book links the export of jobs, factories and industries; the decimation of wages due to illegal immigration; the decline of unions and the subsequent failure of the middle class; the financial consequences of an ill managed money supply; and the refusal of elected officials to represent their constituents. It is an expose of the dire effects of unrestrained capitalism which honors greed as its only master.
The business and government leaders of America are caught up in an economic philosophy that panders to the trappings of a system gone astray. Mesmerized by wealth, profits and feelings of superiority, our leadership does not comprehend the ruination they are bringing upon themselves and their country. Failing to understand the limits of capitalism, America is being sold out to the elitist interests of the world. These well managed maneuvers hide the long term debilitating effects of a botched economic policy. Comfortable and complacent with just a touch of reserve, Americans rich and poor, are marching arm in arm towards inevitable economic suicide. The close minded lemmings are fast approaching the cliff.
None the less, there are solutions to America’s problems. Taking our country back will be a difficult and deadly task for many, but it is still possible. The alternative is the loss of the republic, the destruction of democratic principles and the introduction of tyranny in the form of a military dictatorship.
