Actress Margaret Avery on BlogTalkRadio

| Who can forget Margaret Avery’s stunning portrayal of “Shug,” the sultry and spirited blues singer in “The Color Purple”? That brilliant performance earned Avery a well-deserved Oscar nomination in 1985. Fortunately for her fans, she is scheduled to appear in two new films, “Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins” and “Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns.” On Tuesday, February 12, this acclaimed actress will be my guest on BlogTalkRadio’s “Movie Addict Headquarters.” The show airs live at 4 p.m. Eastern Time, and an archived segment will be available afterwards. |
Besides the Oscar nomination, Avery has won many awards for her acting and her activism, including a Los Angeles Drama Critics Award and a NAACP Lifetime Achievement Award. In addition to acting, she lectures across the country and abroad on issues involving women of color while seeking to empower, enlighten and inspire. She also works with at-risk teens and battered women in greater Los Angeles.
Topics to be covered during Avery’s interview include:
• Obstacles she faced as an actress before earning an Oscar nomination and how that nomination changed things for her.
• What it was like working with Whoopi Goldberg and Steven Spielberg.
