New Arctic Novel on sale in Arctic Bookshop
For the first time in Canada Val Wake's new novel White Bird Black Bird will be on sale in a Canadian bookshop.

"It seems appropriate that the first bookshop to accept delivery of my book is the Yellowknife Book Cellar," said Val Wake speaking from his Australian retirement home of Port Macquarie.

"The story is essentially set in Yellowknife although it does move up and down the Mackenzie River Valley," said Wake who spends a lot of his spare time sailing.

White Bird Black Bird is the story of the start of the native rights movement in northern Canada which was spurred on by the discovery of oil and gas on the Alaskan North Slope.

The story draws on Wake's experience as a reporter during the seventies when he was based in Yellowknife as the CBC News's first reporter premanently based in the north.

Judith Dinnan of the Yellowknife Book Cellar is looking forward to receiving her first consignment of the new novel which is expected to be delivered in the next three weeks.

The Yellowknife Book Cellar is located at 4923 49th Street. Judith Dinnan can be contacted at judith.yellowknifebooks.com
