| After a few delays Val Wake's new title is finally ready for the reading public |
The Port Macquarie Public Library will be venue for the launch of Val Wake's new book My Voyge around Spray with apologies to Captain Joshua Slocum.
" I had hoped to launch this book sooner but there were some delays with the Shanghai printer," said Wake speaking from his home at Port Macquarie on the Australian east coast.
ABC Radio station manager Cameron Marshall will do the honours of launching My Voyage.
Cameron sailed with Val Wake on Spray the name of a 26 foot Triton that features throughout the memoir.
Spray was named after Captain Joshua Slocum's Spray, the first man to sail single handed around the world. It took Slocum about three years in the 1890s.
When Slocum was off the east coast of Australia he came to the rescue of a disabled yacht not far from Port Macquarie. It was this reference to Port Macquarie in Slocum's book Sailing Along Around the World that first got Val Wake interested to retiring to Port Macquarie.
Val and his wife Lil flew out from London to settle in Port Macquare in 1995. During the intervening years they have seen a lot of changes in Port.
The launch will be held at 10.00 am on December 9 th.
