What is Traditional Verse? For the purposes of this contest, Traditional Verse is defined as any genre that has been accepted in literary circles for at least 50 years. This would certainly include free verse as well as more traditional forms like haiku and sonnets.
It would, however, exclude prose poems and storoems. In other words, entries should have the VISUAL LOOK of poetry, not prose.
The organizers have tried to formulate a Contest with as few rules as possible. Formatting is left entirely to the author and there are no limits on the number of entries or the length of entries.
Not only this, but previously published poems and even poems that have won prizes in other contests are acceptable, provided the author has retained electronic rights (that is the right to publish the poem on a web site).
The first prize is $2,000. Other prizes amount to $3,250. The total amount of cash for this Contest that will be awarded totals $5,250.
A big selection of previous winning entries has been published in the anthology, SAILING IN THE MIST OF TIME, which is currently "on special" at most online booksellers for only $9.95 (normally $16.50).
