PRESS RELEASE ENCINITAS
On Wednesday, July 9, 2003, an enthusiastic audience at the Cardiff library listened as six local authors described the process of writing and talked about their books. The Mini-Book Fair, sponsored by Friends of the Library was part of a series of FREE Wednesday night programs.
The authors present were Wendy Haskett, Richard Hicks, Marie Jones, Maryanne Raphael, Jill Shure, and Andrea Glass. Wendy has been teaching advanced creative writing at Mira Costa College for more than ten years and is the author of “Backward Glances,” a compilation of her long-running North County Times column on local history. Richard is a lawyer turned writer who used his law experience to write “The Alpha Conspiracy.” Marie is a new thought minister and the author of “Looking for God in All the Wrong Places,” a light-hearted tome on where to really find God. World traveler, Maryanne is the author of more than six non-fiction and fiction books including “Mother Theresa, A Call to Love” and "Along Came A Spider, A Personal Look at Madness.” Carlsbad resident, Jill described how she had fallen in love with research on the Roaring Twenties and brought what she learned to life in “Night Jazz,” her novel that won the Ben Franklin award. Andrea Glass, who served as moderator, is a ghostwriter and editor, who co-wrote “Street Smart Secrets to Auto Care You Can Trust,” which won the San Diego Book Award for best how-to book of 2001.
