I invite you and all to go on this exciting and sometimes fustrating journey with me. Getting published is proving to be much more difficult than I thought it would be. I mean, I didn't expect it to be easy, but I also didn't expect it to be, 1st off all, expensive and 2nd, sometimes very discouraging. Maybe we can all learn something on my adventure. Also I am trying something new...check it out.. thanks friends :)
Rhonda Marie Baumgardner Newsletter Dated: 9/11/2002 3:17:06 PMSubject: Getting Published Hello all.
I am at the moment talking with one publishing company. The company is 1st Books Publishing, a print on demand publisher. I would be a self published author. Now, with being a self published author I would keep all rights to my book and be able to put whatever I want on the cover. I would a say in everything about it. They would format it and give it an ISBN # and have it put up on their website to sell. It would be available to the public in 3 to 6 weeks and they would even advertise it for me in four major locations. On radio, tv, newspapers, and anywhere else I want it done I can do it myself. Sounds great, right? Well, there has to be a negative somewhere just like with everything, and there is. I would have to pay them $838.00, in 4 installments. If the book is priced at $16.99, I will recieve $8.00. If the book is priced at $10.00, I will recieve $5.00. There is no middle man, such as an agent. I would have to edit it myself. Which means being able to be very objective, and I could use a college degree in English Grammer. (That ofcourse is supposed to be a bit of humor.) To me these things are a negative. It could be a positive in some ways, but that would only be if I already had money and could afford that. More negatives? Well lets see.... It would not be sold through book stores unless I arranged for them to be able to be ordered through certain stores myself. If they put them in stores themselves, it would cost me much more. Meaning that I would recieve even less from the sell of the book. Out of a $10.00 sell, I would get about $1.50 to $2.00. So the book would only be in public view on the internet. Unfortunately most book sells are in stores. Book stores are still the #1 seller of books, by a good percentage. There is more.... But I am still sorting through this information at the moment. Tomorrow I will do part two, To getting published. Anyone that is wanting or thinking about getting published, we have a lot more to go through. I'll do it one day at a time. Until tomorrow....Rhonda
