Hello,
I'm very busy raising an eight year old grandson who has cerebral palsy and is blind in one eye.
I'm editing several novels and have completed two illustrated poetry books. Currently I'm looking for interested publishers.
Would love to keep in touch with everyone who enjoys my poetry but there is never enough time. If you'd like updates on what's going on, you'll find it here.
Love,
Sandy

Hi :),
Update on Mariah.
Two weeks ago the doctors operated on both her eyes (to cauterize random eye vessels that likely would cause her retinas to detach as she grew older--ROP--which caused Doogie's retinas to detach/go blind). She slept most of the 24 hours afterwards. When she finally did eat, Mariah threw up, scarfed the vomit into her already diseased, blackened, undersized lungs and her heart stopped. They called her parents to the hospital though they put her on a heart monitor AND got her lungs cleared as they weren't sure she'd survive much longer. Plucky little thing, she proved them wrong.
This past Tuesday, tests showed some of the 4,000 cauterized vessels were again growing, they again operated on her eyes. This time she stopped breathing during surgery. Again, they were able to put her on a respirator and pulled through.
She will be 3 months old May 28th and is now 3 lbs. 9 1/2 ozs.
Doogie is at outdoors 6th grade camp with hundreds of other 6th graders :)! He's the only blind person there. Unfortunately, it's rained everyday here ... but, perhaps, may have snowed in the mountains. His teacher called yesterday to let us know that he's "doing great" :)!
We have several ill neighbors--Mike, who is back in the hospital with heart/diabetes problems and Red, who has a prognosis of total blindness by October--that we're trying to assist.
You all always in my prayers and, please, continue praying for these special people in my life. I love you all and your continued love/support gives me strength. Thank you :)!
:) Sandy
