Hello,
I'm very busy raising an eight year old grandson who has cerebral palsy and is blind in one eye.
I'm editing several novels and have completed two illustrated poetry books. Currently I'm looking for interested publishers.
Would love to keep in touch with everyone who enjoys my poetry but there is never enough time. If you'd like updates on what's going on, you'll find it here.
Love,
Sandy
Newsletter Dated: 1/23/2008 8:19:26 AMSubject: Update/prayer request for Mariah Herrera
Update for my granddaughter, Mariah Herrera, born Feb. 28, 2006, extreme preemie, 1 lb. 6 ozs. (now 19 lbs.), ROP (underdeveloped eyes), underdeveloped lungs, etc., having surgery TODAY!
Please pray for little Mariah - - her right eye has been swollen since Sept., she's been swaying, acting dizzy, and holding her head as if she has a headache but the medical doctor could find nothing wrong with her.
Finally ... I get Sherry to take Mariah to an eye specialist in Oct and he diagnosed the swollen as as 'suspicious' and referred them to the children's medical eye center in Portland.
After MUCH reminding, they took her in yesterday ... they've scheduled URGENT surgery for Mariah's right eye TODAY! Apparently, when her retina's first detached at 3 months, surgeons inserted a BAND around the eye that should have been removed 6 months later. By then, of course, they were living out here and simply neglected to 'follow - up'. The belt (fitted on an extreme preemie at 3 months) is WAY to big for a little girl who will be 2 on Feb. 28 and the pressure is so EXTREME that her right eye is visibly swollen!!! They have to remove the belt ASAP.
It is not without risks ... the retina could redetach (of course, they will try to attach it a second time) and she may be left with NO vision in the right eye; the eyeball can collapse (especially after being under such extreme pressure for so long) which may affect both her appearance and her vision; or Worse.
Please pray for my little one as I have been. God bless and keep you all. I love you so much! Thanks!
GLY&SDI,
Sandy
