Newsletter Dated: 2/1/2005 11:03:53 PMSubject: Psst! The Arts are alive and well--- PASS IT ON!
There is so much going on in Jackson, Mississippi and neighboring states where the Arts are concerned. I am just so glad that my organization can do a small part to support the struggle that we artists go through.
Keep the following in mind:
* Support local businesses (and artists, as well). The Jackson Free Press says it best: THINK GLOBAL, SHOP LOCAL.
* Support local poetry/arts venues. This would include The Lyric Lounge (founded by Motown Brown) at Santiagos, which has open mic poetry on Thursdays and Sundays as well as The Soul Shack on Tuesday nights at Club Total (hosted by Miss Educated). Don't forget Fenians, Cups, Hal and Mal's as well as Martins when it comes to good open mic. Without these places opening their doors, we would be lost! SUPPORT THEIR EFFORTS!!
* Support ambition. I have been critized for being "too visible," meaning hosting something all the time. In talking to other artists, we have realized that this is not just isolated to me or the city of Jackson. AMBITION IS YOUR FRIEND. Don't knock it, wrap yourself around it. We are growing by helping others grow.
* Support the Jackson Free Press and the Planet Weekly.
* Visit www.cawebb.com often. C. A. Webb, Inc. is growing by leaps and bounds, and we can't send everything to you in a newsletter. Visit the website and check out the books, news, events as well as the articles tabs. Take your time and enjoy the site, then invite others to visit it as well. Programs to watch are those in New Orleans, Memphis as well as the Black History Show I KNOW NOW, featuring D. C. White the Buffalo Soldier.
