We are happy to report that on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 C. A. Webb was hired by Building Bridges, Inc. as their new Communication Liason. Webb will be the mouthpiece to the media and community about events and activities that the organization will be involved in as well as aid in furthering the message of education and awareness of HIV/AIDS.
BUILDING BRIDGES, INC. (BBI) is a community-based 501 (c) 3 organization of caring professionals who are dedicated to preventing HIV infection and to improve the lives of those affected and infected by HIV and AIDS.
Founded in 1995, BBI responded to a need in the growing HIVAIDS endemic in and around the Jackson Metropolitan Area. In the beginning the primary focus was on persons living with HIV/AIDS and to provide comfort by “bridging the gap” between care and services. Some of the early programs of the agency included referrals for services, assistance with shopping and other household chores as well as HIV/AIDS community sessions.
As one of the first AIDS Service Organizations in the State of Mississippi, we continue to sponsor education programs to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS and provide comprehensive support and services for people living with HIV/AIDS. Since our founding, Building Bridges, Inc. has grown to become a leader in the fight against the AIDS epidemic in Mississippi.
Today, the agency offers a continuum of services, including prevention education (street and community outreach, venue-based outreach, condom distribution and group level interventions), HIV antibody testing and counseling, prevention case management, support groups, food boxes, peer support services and assistance with housing opportunities for persons with AIDS (HOPWA) applications.
Building Bridges, Inc. serves all individuals, regardless of gender, sexual orientation or identification, race, ethnicity, religion, education, or economic status.
Building Bridges has the overall mission of providing education, training, services, advocacy, and promoting the rights and dignity of individuals infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
C. A. Webb has worked closely with Building Bridges Inc. since 2004, donating $1 of each sale of his poetry chapbooks METAMORPHOSIS and THE TRUTH to the organization. Both volumes have poems that address the need for education about HIV/AIDS and well as other STDs, and Webb's relationship with the organization has grown since.
In April 2006, C. A. Webb used National Poetry Month as an opportunity to pass out information and condoms during during his booksignings. In May 2006 and June 2006 he will be giving out printed material about Building Bridges while attending events for the Partnership for a Healthy Rankin County and the Rankin County Arts Alliance. Father's Day Weekend, June 14-18, 2006, Webb will be hosting Bestselling author Valencia R. Williams (author of The Hottest Summer Ever Known and VINDICTIVE WO-MEN) in a forum where the topic of HIV/AIDS will be discussed as well as the complacency that some seem to show towards the increase of infections. Building Bridges Inc. will have staff involved in the discussion as well.
