So the eastern part of the United States is still experiencing cold spells while here on the west coast it is hotter than normal--and dry, very dry. Although we had a few teaser storms, the reality is that we have not had a lot of precipitation. When we have, it has been followed by warm weather. Mother Nature is a bit confused but we are hoping for the best.
Last month found me traveling again and people are noticing. Many want to know what I do for a living or how long I have been retired! My auntie is still doing okay but declining steadily. It is amazing to see her so positive and glowing despite the circumstances.
While in my home town, my cousin got me to the beach of my childhood for a day of R&R. That weekend I had a mishap that fortunately wasn't as bad as it could have been. After all my professional years of working with animals that could seriously maim or kill me without incident, I got attacked by a pet dog. Long story short, it was a surprise to everyone! It actually pissed me off but after a visit to the urgent care, I now only have a small sore spot to remind me of the incident.
Still, I was fortunate to be able to spend 9 days with family at the beginning of March. I consider it a great thing since my aunties are all in their 90s (with one youngster of 82) so it was a great blessing to visit with all of them at once.
We have some amazing genes in our family but as we have spread out, it has been harder to see each other and this was the first time all my aunties have been together for a few years.
My cousin has a jazz ensemble that plays regularly around town so I was also able to visit that side of the family and enjoy some great music on the waterfront. Overall it was a fun trip but I was sure tired when I returned!
Another highlight this month was that my business coach flew into Santa Monica. A group of entrepreneurs were invited to be part of his first collective coaching program and I got on board.
He has been keeping me busy refining my business and learning new ways of operating and it was great to meet him in person along with many of the other business owners that I had only interacted with online prior to our meetup.
This month will bring what I hope to be the last of the mega-medical appointments. I am still recovering but now see changes happening again in my body. I hope to continue to trend forward into wellness.
As I get busier, my agent is clamoring for a few new books--which might be a possibility. What topics would you want to see? She liked ALL of the ones I sent her--and that really isn't helpful!
Finally, if you have been a subscriber for a long while, I want to thank you for all the years of support. Many of you have been readers for 13 years! However, because I have changed my career path and focus, I will soon be sending you an email asking if you want to remain on this list or move to another.
Of course I will be sending you links to sign up to a specific list for occasional updates or to get on the new business list but just a heads up that I'll also be removing those who don't take action. I did this a few years back and it just keeps us all happy!
That is it for this update. Looking forward to being out on, in and near the water this summer. Hope that our paths cross and that this month brings you great happiness and high spirits.
As Always--Happy Tails & Sails!
Are You Ready for Mobilegeddon?
Recently I was asked to share my best marketing advice. My answer? It really depends on the business and what stage it is in, but an essential action for business success today is to get online, analyze results and leverage what you do. This means it is essential to track what works and then create a comprehensive strategy to leverage visibility in order to convert consumers to customers.
As of 2015, most businesses can no longer keep up. Last year technology moved into change at warp speed. This translates to mean that in order to become a market leader it is necessary to combine search engine optimization, social optimization, reputation marketing, and mobile optimization strategies. Additionally, it is necessary to invest in local optimization, email marketing, content marketing and conversion strategies.
If this sounds confusing and overwhelming, it is! This is one of the reasons the BBCOC and ARKtech.Co have sponsored free classes each week for the past year and a quarter. In efforts to help businesses an online marketing training center was built for those wanting to take action themselves. If you have not taken advantage of those offers, now would be a good time to do so.
Since I've been active online (1995) I've seen a whole lot of changes and am not fooling when I say that the upcoming shift will significantly impact a whole lot of businesses. If you have not heard, Google announced it will be expanding and using mobile-friendliness in the hierarchy of ranking signals on April 21st.
This significant change will affect searches in all languages worldwide. Moving forward, this translates to mean that only relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for mobile devices will get ranking preference. Labeled as mobilegeddon, the translation means that if your business site doesn't work well in a mobile browser, expect your site to significantly drop in the search engine rankings.
The good news is that there is a tool to allow you to quickly see if your site is displaying properly on mobile devices. Take a moment to check now at http://bit.ly/GMobileTest
How did your site do? If your site didn't pass, take action ASAP.
