1. Tales from the Trips (Latest News)
===============================================
Summer has finally arrived here in the mountains of southern California. Even though the days were nice, we just survived a cold snap of 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Needless to say, I have NOT been gardening yet.
However, I did change out the double paned screening for the summer screens to allow the fresh air inside.
The radio spots are getting good reviews from the community. We picked up three new co-sponsors from the pet industry. Nutro Pet Foods, Wellness Pet Foods, and Canidae. I hope to eventually take these short educational spots national in the future. Keep your fingers crossed.
My book event with Katherine Blanc (author of “The Bad Puppy’s Guide to Life” & “The Bad Kitty’s Guide to Life”) we fun and successful. Be sure to visit http://www.arkanimals.com for the blog for the latest news and where you can order my latest recommendations for books.
Although I had a great trip to Flagstaff, Arizona last month, it ended traumatically with the news that CE, my Amboina King Parrot died early on the morning I was to return. It is always tough to lose any living creature you love. As Forrest Gump says, “...that’s all I have to say about that.”
Allergies have prevented me from doing much in the yard but I did get the bird baths filled and am pondering the project. I’ve managed to avoid an ear infection but am still on the antihistamines.
Which brings me to the point—pets suffer from allergies as well. If your pet is sneezing, scratching, or has running eyes get him or her to the veterinarian for treatment early so you can avoid complications such as
hot spots, sinus or ear infections.
Have a great month and thanks for your continued support!

2. Question(s) for the Month
===============================================
The answer to last months question is traveling! The Travel Industry Association of American shares these interesting pet travel statistics:
In the USA and estimated 29.1 million say they have
traveled with a pet in the past three years. Canines are the most popular travel companion for 78% of the group with felines in second place at 15%. I think the drastic drop is due to old habits of not socializing or
taking cats on as many adventures. Some of you knew my cat, Yasmine (pronounced Yaa-s-meen), who was fully trained and who loved to travel.
Households traveling with pets increases during the summer when more families travel on vacation. Auto or truck is the primary mode of transportation at 76%. Other modes of transport include Recreational
Vehicles at 10%, and airline travel at 6%.
Pet travelers stay most frequently with friends/relatives (32%) but the services of pet friendly hotels or motels is not too far behind (29%).
If you can’t take your pet with you or need to find options for pet care while on the road, don’t forget about pet day care services or pet-sitters. Just
be sure to call in advance to make arrangements and check on availability.
My question(s) for you for this month: What do you know about the Pet Evacuation & Transportation Standards Act?
Thanks! I look forward to hearing from you.

3. Critter Chronicles: Innovative Pet Programs
===============================================
For those of you with pets, don’t forget to look for new innovative programs for your critters. Last month we launched a new program and I wanted to invite you to pop up for a visit!
In addition to the Puppy Club, Canine Club, and Kitten Kindergarten programs launched last month, we have instituted a “drop-in” dog training service and will be offering “drop-in” behavior clinics shortly.
Back in the early 1990’s I started a “Doggie Aerobics” program. The program consisted of a monthly fee so you could attend as many training sessions as you wanted. The challenge was that I could not get people to go home! They stayed for two or three sessions each day.
Today, I find many people want to participate in group sessions but cannot commit to the six to eight weeks of classes. The Clubs and Kindergarten services are free (donations only) and allow people and their pets to meet others so they can get together for romps,
social interludes, and other fun activities. Those participants have asked for a group training option so we will begin the new programming on June 17th.
People must call to pre-enroll and I will have an audio introduction that must be reviewed prior to participation. Each week will feature a different topic. The sessions will be an hour long and only $25!
If you want to enroll in the Big Bear Lake, California location the sessions take place on Saturdays at 4:00pm to enroll call(800) 818-7387.

4. Schedule of Upcoming Events & Appearances
