1. Tales from the Trips (Latest News)
===============================================
This month has taken me on a few jaunts off the mountain and my trip up North was postponed until the fall.
I’ve been catching up with some friends whose work is
unique and uplifting.
My pals include a variety of talented people.
There are those who are writers or authors, many are
artists, a few are animal professionals, and others
are in alternative practices.
Some of you might remember the Blessing of the Animals
interview where I was the guest and talked at length
with Val Heart.
She just let me know that she will be offering a
teleseminar (class by phone) at no charge on June 6, 2009.
If you would like to attend be sure to sign up:
==>> http://budurl.com/ValHeart
Also, If you have kids, grandkids, nieces or nephews you might like to check out my pal Lee Fodi’s new book,
Kendra Kandlestar & the Shard from Greeve (due out this fall).
Lee is affectionately known as Mr. Wiz and many of his
fans simply say that they are Wiz Kids.
Anyway, if you are a resident of British Columbia please check out the advance sneak peak launch party scheduled for June 21, 2009.
If you would like to attend just sign up at the website
and let Lee know that I told you to crash the party!
Find more information on the Kendra Kandlestar website at:
==> http://kendrakandlestar.com/
Okay, that is it for now. Hard to believe that it is
already June!
In the meantime,
Happy Tails to You & Yours,
Diana L Guerrero

2. Discussion for the Month
===============================================
My stamina is improving and so I am only taking select
cases of animal behavior and training.
Each of my clients is amazing but I had to laugh when
one of my human students was amazed at how excited her
dog gets when she sees me or arrives for school.
This is in contrast to many other animal trainers in
the area.
Why would she be so excited?
Because training has completely changed her life and her
relationships with her owners has improved—but mostly
because she is having a great time.
Training should be fun and done in short frequent sessions.
My human student said that she wanted training to be
fun for the dog and so is thrilled as well.
Because she comes from a traditional training
background she is having to learn all new skills.
Usually learning new skills is what frustrates people
who have enrolled in dog training classes.
Although I do use positive training methods I am usually a bit tougher on the humans.
So when I read and reviewed, Reaching the Animal Mind,
I decided to implement the tagging technique.
It isn’t that I don’t positive reinforce the human’s
behavior but doing so with something like a whistle is
something I have not done.
The fun thing is that my new student immediately learned what changes were the best for her and her dog.
She shared that she has experienced a few “ah hah!” moments through training and is one of my most enthusiastic students.
In the past, some of my students have not liked the TAG
approach but I am hoping that, with the release of the
Karen Pryor’s new book, this will change.
You can read my review and order a copy here:

The book will be released later this month and is an
interesting and engaging read.
I highly recommend Reaching the Animal Mind for
anyone with a pet - - and definitely for anyone interested
in animal training.
