Subject: Newsletter: FGM book nearing completion; Books and books
Iowa is beautiful in spring, summer and fall. On morning walks along some of our recreation trails, I can witness many natural wonders. Be it ducks squabbling over territory, a fawn frustrated with a fence, a badger scurrying from the path, or racoons slinking by – – my eyes enjoy. When these animals aren’t busying about, or even when they are, my eyes rest upon the beauty of the towering trees arching across the path. Ah, so very peaceful are the trails. Qtherwise, quiet prevails here in Author’s Castle as manuscript submission time nears and as another author publishes a book under the Castle’s logo. Included for your interest are Irene Brand’s latest publishing accomplishments. Enjoy!!
BOOK MANUSCRIPT ON FGM NEARING SUBMISSION TIME
My book manuscript on female genital mutilation (FGM) will be submitted in about two weeks (July 31). I have been working with illustrations for the book. A graduate student in art education drew three very fine maps about prevalence of FGM. I was successful in obtaining permission from the American Academy of Pediatrics to use their illustrations on the three types of FGM plus one figure on normal anatomy. The third illustration involves a candidate for a possible cover photo. I have also been successful in securing permissions for almost all interviews.
Besides the illustrations and permissions, the manuscript is now being edited and organized for readability. Then all of these components, illustrations, permissions and manuscript are organized and submitted in both hard copy and electronic file. So, the end for this busy author is near.

AUTHOR IRENE BRAND’S PUBLISHING SUCCESSES
From Irene Brand’s July 15 Newsletter are the following excerpts on her publishing:
“My book, _Afterglow_, a 1997 Heartsong Presents release will be included in an anthology with three other HP books, to be published in June, 2005. The anthology, APPALACHIA, includes books with contemporary settings in West Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina and Tennessee. The anthology will be sold in all CBA [Christian Book Association] stores, so this will be an opportunity for those who are looking for out-of-print books.
“I'm pleased to be a part of the new Steeple Hill Suspense line. The first of these books will be released in summer, 2005. My first SHS book, _Hope Renewed_, will be published in November or December, 2005. I don't have a publishing date for the second book, _Steadfast Hope_.”
Congratulations Jerry and Irene!!
