Happy Hello Dear Readers!
A lot of good news to report this time. It is a pleasure to welcome more new subscribers, and thanks to the faithful, long-standing subscribers. I appreciate the interest in my work.
Yesterday, I signed my 9th contract with McFarland Publishers for a book with the working title, _Women Leaders in Africa_. So, it’s official now, and back to work for me in my Author’s Castle.
Two new reviews came to my attention this week. One review on _Female Genital Mutilation: Legal, Cultural and Medical Issues_ appeared in _Feminist Collections: Quarterly of Women’s Studies Resources_. The other review on _Female Suicide Bombers_ appears on Blogcritics.org.
CONTRACT SIGNED FOR BOOK ON WOMEN LEADERS IN AFRICA
My working relationship with McFarland is a positive experience. I signed my first contract with them in December 1994 agreeing to write _Power and Gender_. Now in 2007, I have signed my 9th contract agreeing to write _Women Leaders in Africa_. This book will cover exciting women who appear to be breaking ground. I say “appear” because if you examine Africa’s history you will see that these exciting women are carrying on a long tradition. Remember Cleopatra? If any of you see a name of a current female African leader, please send it to me. One of my first steps is to decide which leaders I will cover.
FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION
_Feminist Collections: Quarterly of Women’s Studies Resources_ has published a very positive review of my book, _Female Genital Mutilation: Legal, Cultural and Medical Issues_. The review begins with the acknowledgment of difficult subject matter handled well, “This is a difficult subject to read about, and one can only imagine the dedication it took to be immersed in the research and writing of this excellent, thorough reference work.”
The excellent review continues with outlining chapter content and Skaine’s perspective on female genital mutilation (FGM) and conclude with the statement, “Highly recommended for university libraries and women’s studies departmental collections.”
Readers of this review will gain a clear idea about the book. To read the complete review, click on the link below. You may have to sign in to read the entire review. As far as I know, there is no charge if you read the article as a trial.

FEMALE SUICIDE BOMBERS
Natalie Bennett, London, reviewer, Blogcritics.org on June 18, 2006 reviewed my book, _Female Suicide Bombers_.
Excerpts from Natalie’s review follow:
"Overall, it seems that it is impossible to create a general profile in the 'female suicide bomber", or to set out a range of likely characteristics. Their range of motivations, of temperaments, of socio-economic backgrounds, is likely to be just as varied as that of male attackers."
"[The book] is a survey of the current state of academic and media thought. But still, as a survey, _Female Suicide Bombers_ conveniently collects the current state of knowledge of the subject, and is worth having on your bookshelf to provide perspective for the next inevitable outrage."
"It is also a corrective to attempts often made to use female exceptionalism as an excuse not to look seriously at the causes behind the women's attacks."
