Happy Hello Dear Readers!
One of the most rewarding aspects of publishing is requests for assistance. These past weeks, I’ve been helping an international university student in Japan find meaningful contacts in Africa. She is writing an undergraduate thesis on FGM This effort has been most rewarding for me because she said that the book I wrote inspired her greatly. It was in London that she first came across my book, while she visited the LSE library. The chapters on the interview with the Maasai truly motivated her to go visit them herself.
After reading the epigram from Maasai female village members, she said that she, “couldn't help myself from thinking of going there to meet them.” The epigram in my book reads,
"We hope many people will read your book and that some will learn about the Maasai. We hope they will get an interest in the Maasai and come to encourage and help us."
That this epigram motivated the student, was truly one of the most rewarding moments of my writing career. I can still remember the Maasai woman’s face as she said the words. At the time, I thought that it was both our dreams that their story might touch someone, somewhere to reach out to them. And it did.
