Happy Hello Dear Readers!
Happiness IS a book totally DONE!!! The Women of Afghanistan in the Post - Taliban Era How Lives Have Changed and Where They Stand Today is now published!! This book is sold at all of the usual places online, McFarlandpub.com, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, AuthorsDen and directly through me.
Please request your library purchase a copy. Before you go to your library, print the book flyer located at http://www.mcfarlandpub.com/book - 2.php?id=978 - 0 - 7864 - 3792 - 4.
Readers will find positive growth in Afghanistan as well as the devastation of war. Two highlights are: 1) women are no longer hidden in their homes and forbidden to leave, but instead, are free to leave and can be found working and in school. 2) school enrollments are so large that the country faces the positive problem of producing more teaching material and having, in some cases, a school building.
Much of what gets built in Afghanistan also gets destroyed. As one ambassador said, “We build it; they burn it.” A military leader said that where the road ends, the Taliban begins. So, building the infrastructure and the institutions in the face of war is one of the challenges. Poverty is another.
New ideas on the gender order are presented – much of which is based on my chapter 6 co - author’s time spent in Afghanistan. In this chapter, she presents interviews with ordinary Afghan women and I profile Afghan women leaders.
Of course, I highly recommend this book.
