Requiem for a Poet

This poem is lovingly dedicated to Joel Raja Kumar J, our fellow poet who left this world and will be sorely missed.

I had no idea when I wrote this poem that I would use it so soon for one of our members.  I have made the gender changes, but the message is the same.  Perhaps my muse, knowing more than I inspired this just for Joel Raja Kumar J's passing.

Requiem for A Poet

He spent his entire life searching for the sublime expression

The ultimate gift of his poet’s heart

Laying his simple offering of words, rhythm and rhyme

Upon the altar of his art

He feared nothing but being silenced

In the world that needed his voice

To make those who’s life he touched

Know that they had a choice

He showed the way to humanity

Through a world that seems so cursed

And did it with grace and aplomb

With idea and ideals gently versed

His heart worn upon his sleeve

Through joy and sorrow, tears and smiles

His reader learned the secrets of his soul

And how he faced his trials

He spread herself upon the altar of humility

That others might learn that higher ground

was always present if in your soul

You wanted it to be found

He learned young that some would laugh

Others criticize and mock his passion

Deeming his gift useless

In a world were money was the ruling fashion

To all those who wish to pay him homage

His dying wish was not for eulogies or post mortem fame

But that all who loved his work lift their faces to the star lit sky

And present a poem to the universe in his name

There is no greater love in the universe than the one we share from our hearts as writers. As poets we tell it like it should be, and like it is. The words we write are for others to learn from, if they can.

This poem is a great tribute to the poets, both maleand female, that have gone before us. To them I say thank you so much for your inspiration.

And thank you Bobbi for writing such a wonderful poem, remembering those who are gone physically, but never forgotten.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your sister, Barbie
