Requiem for A Poet
He spent his entire life searching for the sublime expression
The ultimate gift of his poet’s heart
Laying his simple offering of words, rhythm and rhyme
Upon the altar of his art
He feared nothing but being silenced
In the world that needed his voice
To make those who’s life he touched
Know that they had a choice
He showed the way to humanity
Through a world that seems so cursed
And did it with grace and aplomb
With idea and ideals gently versed
His heart worn upon his sleeve
Through joy and sorrow, tears and smiles
His reader learned the secrets of his soul
And how he faced his trials
He spread herself upon the altar of humility
That others might learn that higher ground
was always present if in your soul
You wanted it to be found
He learned young that some would laugh
Others criticize and mock his passion
Deeming his gift useless
In a world were money was the ruling fashion
To all those who wish to pay him homage
His dying wish was not for eulogies or post mortem fame
But that all who loved his work lift their faces to the star lit sky
And present a poem to the universe in his name
