Death
© 2005 Bobbi Duffy
Death, I feel your breath ever closer.
Your hand reaches out to me.
I know your presence,
And fear you not.
When the time is right
I will turn to face you
And embrace you
As the sweet release from the pain
That dogs my every step
And shatters my dreams
From the aching that robs me of my peace,
Makes my soul cry out for relief
And long for the gentle senseless sleep you will be.
Until then
I will keep my spirit bright
With the knowledge that each day
Is a new beginning,
Another chance to be me,
Another opportunity to tell the world
That I am
A poet,
A dreamer,
A lover,
A person of intrinsic value.
So follow me death,
And wait for me to be ready
To give up the ghost.

WE have to look death in the face and let it know we are not ready. This is a powerful poem, and yes, as poets we have something to say and we say in the written word. When I am finished death, I will let you know. I rate this a 10 out of 10 and thank you for sharing.
May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love and who love you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie |

Excellent writing, Bobbi, not ready for death, but when it comes, there's little I can do about it, so why not walk into the sunset with it? Well done.
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. |

I like what you have written here, and I feel that a lot of people will have similar feelings about "Death". But like you say...we all got to do what we've got to do, and we only allow death to be near us when we're ready for it.
Good write with a sound message!!

Until then
I will keep my spirit bright
With the knowledge that each day
Is a new beginning,
Another chance to be me,
Very well-stated and meaningfully shared, Bobbi. I appreciate your philosophical point of view. Love and best wishes,
Regis

Very nicely stated dear friend and this is such a wonderful way to look at the subject of life and death. As poets we tend too often to try and disguise our fears and emotions in our words but this one embraced your thoughts on the subject...
